In a faraway plain, where the flowers smelled like taffy and honey, a little butterfly named “Nila” lived. Nila’s wings were a bright orange color, just like the color of a sweet, delicious orange on a sunny day.
Every day, Nila looked up at the big sky. Today the clouds were moving like pieces of cotton in the sky, and a gentle wind was winding through the grass. Nila was a little worried because she had never flown in the wind before.
“Samin,” the pink and kind flower, shook her head and looked at Nila. In a calm voice she said: “Dear Nila, don’t be scared! The wind is like a big, invisible swing. All you have to do is open your wings and let it carry you into the game.”
Nila took a deep breath and gathered all her courage in her little heart. She rose up from Samin’s soft petals and opened her orange wings as wide as she could. She was ready for a great adventure.
Whooo... Suddenly the wind curled under her wings and lifted her up! At first Nila trembled a little and flapped her wings quickly. She felt how light her body had become, just like a straw feather between the earth and the sky.
At that very moment, a white and fluffy dandelion seed passed by her. The dandelion seed spun happily and said: “Hi Nila! Come on, let’s race among the clouds!” Nila laughed and, together with her new friend, began to fly along the path of the wind.
Nila realized that the wind wasn’t scary at all. The wind was like a kind friend who held her up under her wings so she could go higher and see more beautiful things from up there.
She was so happy that she did a full spin in the middle of the sky and even did a somersault. Her orange wings shone in the sunlight like gold. Now she knew how strong and capable she was.
Nila reached the top of the highest hill of the plain. From up there, the whole world was beneath her like a beautiful, colorful painting. In a loud voice she said to the sun: “I am the bravest orange butterfly!”
When the sun slowly went to sleep, Nila went back home with a heart full of joy. She sat on her favorite flower, closed her eyes, and fell asleep with a smile, knowing that tomorrow she would play with the wind again.
