Deep in the blue ocean, where the water is as clear and cool as sweet syrup, a kind whale shark named “Hoor” lived. Hoor was so big that when he swam, he looked like a moving island, but his heart was bigger than anything.
Hoor had white spots on his body that shone at night like the stars in the sky. He loved to rub his belly on the soft sands of the seafloor and listen to the song of the seashells.
One morning, a tiny pink fish named “Marjan” came to see Hoor. Marjan was so small that Hoor had to look very carefully to see her. Marjan said, “Kind Hoor, will you come play with me?”
Hoor and Marjan went together to the colorful coral garden. They played hide-and-seek among the purple seaweeds. Hoor tried to move very gently so his tiny friends’ home wouldn’t be ruined.
Suddenly they saw a little seahorse named “Moj” who was hiding behind a big rock. Moj was a bit shy and had wrapped his tail around a coral branch. Hoor said in a calm voice, “Don’t be scared, little Moj—come play with us!”
When Moj saw how kind Hoor was, he came forward. Hoor let them sit on his wide back. Now Hoor, like a big sea bus, took his friends along for a ride.
They reached a place where magical bubbles rose up from the ground. Marjan and Moj started jumping on the bubbles. The bubbles made sounds like glass balls and popped: “Pop! Pop!”
The sun was slowly sinking behind the waters, and its orange light reached into the depths of the sea. Hoor found a shining pearl that glimmered like the moon. He showed it to Moj and Marjan.
It was time to sleep. With his deep, gentle voice, Hoor sang a lullaby for his friends. Marjan made herself comfortable on one of Hoor’s soft fins and closed her eyes.
Moj also tucked himself into the hollow behind Hoor. Kind Hoor became the guardian of his tiny friends’ dreams. The whole ocean was calm, and the stars on Hoor’s body kept shining all night long.
